Time Machine only seems to calculate the system drive, and I can't find any way to force Time Machine to just restore a backup even though it thinks it doesn't have the free space available.

Zeterjons asked the Utilities forum how to rescue files off of a physically crashed hard drive, while making sure that other files on that hard drive are destroyed beyond rescue.
