To open an IMG file and view the contents in Windows 7, you need a third-party file extraction program such as WinRar or 7-Zip.
The install.wim has been replaced with install.esd file format in Windows 11/10 image file downloaded using the Media Creation Tool or the Windows Upgrade Assistant.
